About Me

This is me, The Rat...partner since 2001 to Concrete_Man, mum to Rat_Girl (born 13.12.05) and Rat_Boy (born 14.05.09). Co-inhabiting our nest are 2 rather large fury 4 legged rats, Boxer_Dog and Black_Dog. We run a business from the nest with Concrete_Man doing the manly physical work while I stay at home and do the 'other' stuff. This means we are often busy, often stressed and often very tired...but then again who isn't! Anyway that's enough for now. As time goes by you will learn a bit more about the family that is "MummaRat's Nest"

Best meal of the day

Breakfast!!

I doubt I could go back to eating toast or cereal for breakfast.....

Quinoa protein pancakes

Yes it was still dark when I was eating my breakfast and the lighting in our place is crap!!

Recipe
1/2cup quinoa flakes
1/2cup water
Cook in microwave for 1 minute, then mix in
2 whole eggs (it's even better when you have free range eggs in tap!)
1/2scoop of protein powder (I use ON hyrdo whey Velocity Vanilla)

Cook in a pan over low/medium heat until golden :). I use a little nuttlex dairy free butter to grease the pan. You should get 2-3 decent sized pancakes.

Top with your choice of fruit and yogurt or ricotta.

At the moment, due to dietary issues, I'm limited to what I can eat, no lactose, no wheat, minimal gluten and minimal sugars/sweeteners.

I use Black Swan naturally sweet Greek yogurt which makes these pancakes gluten, wheat, sugar and virtually lactose free. The only sweetener is a little on the protein powder which is on my list of allowable foods.

Why I love/hate Tuesdays

Hate
Tuesday is my Monday and it's the first working day of the week

Love
Normally I'm in the office on my own so I can turn my music up loud and sing and dance around the office as much as I like

Hate
It's chest, bicep and tricep training day my weakest links! Oh and I especially hate that preacher curl!

Love
That even though they are my weakness links, after a good upper body session I feel like I walk taller and look stronger

Hate
That rat_girl has Cheerleading practice sooo late and it's a fight every week to get there on time

Love
Watching her and the other cheerleaders dancing and having fun

Hate
That we eat dinner so late (it was almost 9 before I ate as opposed to 530/6 on a normal night)

Love
That the rest of the family choose to have take away (I know bad mummarat) and I just look after myself....and especially love tonight's dinner

Frittata - with spinach, sweet potato, eggplant, carrot, capsicum and sprinkle of parmesan

Reflecting (quick post)

As this is the week I'm taking some measurements for my trainer, I just scrolled back through my blog to find my measurements back from when I started this blog and my weight loss.

I had a quick measure up when at the dietitian the other day sorting out my food intolerance issues, so I have an idea on what my waist and hip measurement will be, and when I looked back at my starting measurements...I shed a tear or two, happy tears ofcourse...

So as a sneak peak
waist was 115.5cm now 78cm
hips was 134cm now 98cm

Who would have thought hey!

3 weeks in and feeling stronger (and smaller)

My new training and nutrition plan has been going great!!!

I did start posting the record that I was sending to my trainer but then realised I probably shouldn't post everything seeing as I pay for her this and wouldn't want anyone taking advantage, so I have removed those posts for now.

This week will be my first weigh in and measurements, so looking forward to seeing if it's working.  Although I can already in 3 weeks feel my clothes getting looser and I feel stronger and can actually see some changes to my body shape.

There have been some mental changes too, I'm really enjoying what I'm doing because it designed for me, I can fit in all the training no worries and the food is simple so I'm less stressed and I'm kind of just doing things without thinking, which is how it should be.

So once I've done my measurements this week, I'll share my results and maybe throw up some updated photos...after all it's been awhile!

The Rat has shrunk now it's time to change shape!

Yes yes I know long time no blog, meh story of my life!!

So much has happened and I'll catch up on that after (when I workout exactly where it was that I left off). But in the mean time, today is day 1 of some new and exciting things.

Today I have a new training and nutrition program set out especially for me by a very very experienced, and slightly scary trainer. I've lost my weight now it's time to make some serious changes to my shape, gain a bit more muscle and lose some of this stubborn fat!!!

For the first week I have to report to her every day with my training and food diary, so I figure I will share that here, why not hey.

After the first week I check in once a week, and I update weight, measurements and photos once every 4 weeks.

It should keep me honest and in check.

So tonight will be my first check in, I'll post details later tonight.

Mini Milestone week (a week early)

Week 4 is our mini milestone week in 12wbt but as we have a public holiday tomorrow a few of us thought 'hey let's do it a week early so we get a day recovery'

So we did the blue arrow nature walk. This is almost 2.5 hours of hills, stairs, ups, downs, long grass (eeeww shudder), turkeys, wallabies, spiders and snakes (which I didn't see so don't exist), thrills and a few spills. I fell on the way down, but my awesome friend caught me!

At the very top we are about 400m above sea level, the view is just stunning and so worth the walk.

Now even though not all of us made it right to the top, each one of us that climbed out of bed early on a Sunday, put on our shoes and made the drive there deserves a huge pat in the back.

We re-grouped as we came down while we waited for the very last member to catch up. Little did we know, she powered on while we were chatting and almost beat us back down to the bottom.

Excuse the blur in the photo, hard to find good photographers these days :-)

It was very sunny, but tried to get a shot to show how high we are. This here is the look out we walk to most weekends at the top of the red arrow.

We had a fantastic morning and everyone was in the highest spirits when we finished. I'm so glad I got to experience it with these awesome people!

Now I do have a few other wee milestones up my sleeve for the week, 1 being a run. I want to see how far I can run, 4klm would be nice. So I'll give it a go and report back soon.

Oh and fitness testing and measurements coming up this week! YAY

Mixing it up

That was heaps of fun!

Because I couldn't get to the gym for my strength training today I decided to mix it up a bit at home.

I really wanted to do the gym exercises Mish had set, and as it turned out it was all free weights with a fitball instead if a bench! So I borrowed some weight and put air in the fit ball (workout in itself!).

So for my workout this minting I used the 5 min warm up from Mish's cardio kicker DVD, then did my weights program, and can I say chest press laying on a fitball....whoa! Then to finish I did the abdominal workout and cool down from cardio kicker.

I really enjoyed it! It's a strength session so not a huge calorie burn but 339 none the less!

Oh and weigh in Wednesday, lost 600g this week, so 600g closer to healthy weight range 4.3kgs to go!

Happy Wednesday :-)
